I switched from Hydrobuckets to these. These are the advantages you get with this design compared to all other buckets:
1. Larger size, less frequent top offs.
2. Triangle opening is much easier to use than the opening on a Hydrobucket. The hydrobucket is in two pieces and it’s a pain to fit back into position.
3. Top feed (percolation). This is the biggest advantage. I would get at least a one day setback going from an aerocloner to buckets. In some cases they would even wilt for a day. This was because the other buckets lacked a top feed to keep the roots wet during that time. Not only did I get no stalling when transplanting they took off like gangbusters after. My estimate is a two week reduction in veg time. I like that you can adjust the top feed with the shutoffs they provide.
Recommendations:
Put the top feed ring under some clay pellets. I had mine sitting on top of the pellets and they squirted solution all over the top of the buckets. I heaped some pellets on top and it took care of it. Next time I’ll go 1/2-1″ below the top of the pellets.
I only use the top feed during the start of veg. After the plants are going well I turn off the top feed to direct more oxygen to the roots.
Summary:
I just started flowering my first run with a four bucket set. 17 days veg instead of the usual 28 days. Just ordered a second set…
